I have lost count of the number of times clients have asked me to look in to why they were not getting good wash results from their commercial washing machines. The problem in many cases was simply caused by overloading the drum!
Any commercial washing machine needs TACT to get the wash load clean:
Time Enough time with the clothes submersed to acheive the desired result. Standard wash program times are relevant to the wash label in the garment.
Action The mechanical wash action caused by the drum tumbler ribs lifting and dropping the clothes in and out of the wash water.
Chemical The effect of the commercial washing powder releasing the soiling from fabrics and holding it in suspension within the wash water
Temperature Dictated by the wash program selected “Cottons 60” – “Woolens 30” etc
The critical factor here is the need for the clothes to be able to lift and drop during the wash action.
If the drum is rammed so full that you need a body slam to close the door , then the clothes will have no space to move around and will not wash clean!
When loading a commercial washing machine drum, leave enough room at the top of the drum to comfortably get your hand in and turn it sideways unimpeded. When the clothes get wet, this space will increase and “hey presto”…you have enough mechanical action for your commercial washing machine and commercial washing powder to do their job. If you selected the right program to start with then you will get CLEAN RESULTS!
